Role and Responsibilities
The Medical Coder (Multi-Specialty) is responsible for accurately and efficiently identifying and assigning medical codes for payment based on medical records or other documentation as provided and in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide CPT and ICD10 coding services for advanced medical specialties, including surgery(s), transplant services and complex nephrology encounters.
- Knowledge base should include assistant at surgery and co-surgeon rules.
- Investigate and resolve coding denials.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Able to conduct client audits for charges, documentation needs and denials.
- Provide coding services through computer-assisted vendor and for high profile clients.
Required Skills/Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive approach to monitoring client status.
Education and Experience:
- Some college preferred.
- CPC Certification required.
- 3+ years of industry experience.
- Complex Surgical, Nephrology, and/or Transplant experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
- Able to read medical record information provided by client.
