Position Overview:
The Director, Human Resources is responsible for the overall leadership of the Human Resources functions in Costa Rica and Colombia locations.  This role has a dual reporting structure into VP, CR, with a dotted line to into the Senior VP of Human Resources, US.  The Director, Human Resources will oversee and ensure standardization, efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, ensuring best practices and alignment with strategic and corporate goals and initiatives.  The Director will lead, develop, and coordinate the policies, benefits, and activities. The Director is responsible for employee relations, assessing staffing needs, along with the development of compensation plans. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervisory responsibilities include hiring and training of Human Resource staff both in CR and CO.  This includes planning, assigning, and directing work through department managers; appraising performance with recommended merit increase; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing issues and resolving problems. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and provide leadership for Project Management and Quality Improvement policy development.
  • Act as trusted advisor and sounding board to senior management on complex employee issues and employee legal matters.
  • Partners with the extended global HR team and leaders to drive implementation of strategies and programs, measure and track success and proactively drive improvement.
  • Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
  • Develops and implements departmental budget.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Attributes:

Education and Experience:

  • 5-7 years progressive Human Resources management experience is required. 
  • This role typically requires a Bachelor’s degree.  In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
